The Witches of Pendle Kitchen Witch Doll Collection
The Year is 1612. James the First is King of England. Rumours of Wichcraft are rife. An impoverished local woman, named Alizon Device curses a pedlar at the side of the road. A few days later, the pedlar, a man named John Law is taken ill, and so begins the accusation of Witchcraft, the search for Witches and the infamous trial of the Witches of Pendle. By the end of the Witch Hunt a total of thirteen men and women from the Pendle region of Lancashire have been accused of Witchcraft.
James Device and John Bulcock ( the only males in this sorry tale ), Alizon Device, Elizabeth Device, Anne Whittle aka Chattox, Alice Nutter, Anne Redferne, Katherine Hewitt, Jane Bulcock and Isobel Robey are found guilty of Witchcraft and Murder and are hanged as Witches in Lancaster gaol. Elizabeth Southerns aka Demdike dies in prison awaiting trial, Jennet Preston is hung in York and Margaret Pearson receives a prison sentence of one year having been found guilty of Witchcraft, but not of murder.
